The Bihar School Examination Board [BSEB] has decided to pass about 2.14 lakh students despite getting failed in one or two subjects in the 10th and 12th class board exams. Krishnandan Prasad Verma, the education minister of the state said that the board will give grace marks to the failed students in the 10th and 12th exams. It is a ‘one-time exception’ and a great opportunity to lakhs of students during the current pandemic situation of the nation.
It’s a sigh of relief to about 2 lakh matriculation and intermediate candidates across the state. Earlier, the board organized the 10th and 12th class board exams in Bihar in February and March respectively this year. After the result declaration, it has witnessed some students who failed in either one or two subjects on these board exams. Further, the board has made a decision on passing those students by awarding grace marks.
After awarding the grace marks to the failed candidates, the board has now published the updated results of the students online. The class 10 and class 12 exams’ updated results will be available now to access on the official website i.e., at onlinebseb.in. Earlier, the board had disclosed the 12th class exam results on 24th March. On the other hand, the 10th class results were released on 26th May 2020.
The minister had made this decision on giving grace marks to the students rather than holding compartmental exams. It is a ‘one-time exception’ to all the students considering the COVID-19 pandemic consequence in the state. Mr. Verma made this decision on Thursday and said, ‘Normally, students who fail in one or two subjects are given a chance to appear at the compartmental examination but it would not have been possible to hold the examination in the next two-three months in view of COVID-19 pandemic.’
In the current pandemic situation, it is truly arduous to hold the compartmental exams to the failed students. If the board had held the exams, the results would have been released in November or December 2020. In that case, it would be difficult for the students to take part in the admission process of higher education. Considering all these elements, the board has passed all the students by awarding grace marks.
Even, the education department has permitted the proposal made by the state board in the willingness of the students, said the education minister. After awarding grace marks, about 72610 students have passed in the 12th class exams. On the other hand, 141677 students of class 10 have been passed after awarding them grace marks. The State Government of Bihar had to make this decision after the students of CBSE started demanding the cancellation of compartment exams.
