COVID-19: MHRD Postpones NIRF Ranking Until Further Notice

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has deferred the NIRF India Rankings 2020 announcement. Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 across the nation, the HRD Ministry has come to this decision. The officials of the ministry have released a notification on the official website of NIRF. The official notice reads, ‘The announcement of India Rankings 2020 is postponed until further notice due to COVID 19.’

In the previous year, NIRF had declared the India Rankings in the first week of April. The Indian Institute of Technology [IIT] Madras had secured the top position on the list of higher education institutes. IISc Bangalore and IIT-Delhi had secured the second and third positions respectively on the list. There are numerous management institutes across the nation.

MHRD Postpones NIRF Ranking Until Further Notice

Among them, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore [IIM-B] secured the top place while IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta stood at the 2nd and 3rd places. MHRD has approved the National Institutional Ranking Framework [NIRF]. It further launched the same on 29th September 2015. This particular framework summarizes a system that gives ranking to the institutions across the nation.

In the previous year, the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind released the NIRF India Rankings on 8th April 2019. Considering the complete category, the Indian Institute of Technology [IIT] Madras had secured the top list by scoring 83.33. In the list of top universities last year, the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru secured the top place with a score of 82.28.

In the category of the top Engineering institutes or the university list 2019, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras stood in the top position with an 89.05 score. In the list of colleges, Miranda House, Delhi secured the top place with a 73.72 score.

The HRD Ministry will give rankings to colleges or universities based on various factors. Some of them include research and professional activities, teaching, learning, and available resources, graduation outcomes and more. By giving rankings to the institutes, it aids the colleges to evaluate themselves and enhance their teaching skills. Eventually, it helps the institutes to secure a better rank in the international ranking index such as THE and QS.
