The Directorate of Education released an order on Sunday stating that all the schools across Delhi will remain shut till 31st October 2020. The students pursuing different standards across various schools in Delhi can remain at home till the end of the month. Considering the feedback from schools and principals, the concerned officials of the government made this decision.
It is the second time for the Delhi Government to decide not to follow the option given by the Union Government for schools to open in a confined form. According to the Unlock 4 guidelines, the Union Health Ministry had permitted all the schools outside the containment zones to reopen from 21st September for candidates of classes IX to XII. The guidelines also mentioned that the attendance given to the students will be on a voluntary basis if they are seeking guidance from their teachers.
As per the subsequent Unlock 5 guidelines, the Center has now permitted the states to open their corresponding educational institutions in a phased mode starting from 15th October. One of the officials of the Delhi Government said, ‘There have been discussions with school principals who are in close touch with parents. The overwhelming response from parents is that there is a lack of confidence their children will be safe. With a large number of reported cases as well, we thought to take another month to see if it will be more amenable to open up then.’
An official statement has been issued from the office of Manish Sisodia, the Education Minister of Delhi. The statement reads, ‘Shri Arvind Kejriwal has said that as a parent, he understands the seriousness of the situation. During this Covid-19 crisis, it would not be appropriate to take any risk regarding children’s health.’ Meanwhile, some of the states across India have already opened schools for senior students following Unlock 4 guidelines.
However, Haryana, Assam, and Jammu and Kashmir have reopened schools in a limited custom. The State Government of Uttar Pradesh also permitted schools to reopen in a phased mode as per the guidelines of Unlock 5. To get the latest educational updates, just stay tuned to this website.
