The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia announced that the schools will be shut considering the COVID-19 pandemic conditions in the national capital. During an online press conference organized on Wednesday, the Deputy CM said that the parents of students aren’t willing to send their children to schools even after reopening. Previously, the Government of Delhi had announced that all the schools across the national capital will remain shut till 31st October 2020.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi posted a tweet on his official Twitter handle. The tweet reads, ‘Due to Corona in Delhi, all schools will remain closed till further orders. Currently, online, semi-online studies will continue.’ The Delhi CM previously discarded the decision of reopening schools in the state. About 2500 parents of the students pursuing in Delhi schools had previously requested the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal not to reopen the schools this academic year considering the ongoing pandemic. The parents represented the office of Delhi CM.
The Delhi Parent’s Association sent an email to the CMO. In the email, the association sent some inputs and views taken from 2498 parents. Most of the parents stated that they aren’t convenient to send their children to schools as of now. As per the new unlock guidelines of the Center, the states can take a call regarding the schools reopening in phases. Earlier, the students of classes 9 to 12 can attend the schools, as per the guidelines.
Since 16th March 2020, the schools have remained closed considering the directions of the Center due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sisodia said in an online class today that, ‘We keep getting feedback from parents that they are concerned about whether it is safe to reopen schools. It is not (safe to reopen). Wherever schools have reopened, COVID-19 cases among children have risen. So we have decided that as of now schools in Delhi will not reopen. They will continue to be closed till further orders.’
The Delhi Government decided to remain the schools closed in the state following some of the states.
