The existing eligibility criteria were that the candidates must secure at least 75 percent marks in 12th class board exams or need to acquire a rank among the top 20 percentile in the qualifying exams of corresponding institutes. This year, the candidates who secured a qualifying mark in JEE Main examination only need to acquire a passing certificate in the 12th class exam. Regardless of the marks secured in the board exams, they must produce only their passing certificate to fulfil the eligibility criteria to get admission into National Institutes of Technology.

Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, the Minister of Human Resource Development said, ‘The Ministry of Union Human Resource Development made an announcement regarding the relaxation in admission procedure for various NITs and other centrally funded technical institutions considering COVID-19 pandemic.’ Besides qualifying the JEE Main examination, the candidates need to fulfil this eligibility criteria, said the minister.

In the previous week, the HRD Ministry had provided relaxation to the eligibility criteria while providing admissions into Indian Institutes of Technology [IITs] this year sans considering the students’ performance in 12th class board exams. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, different education boards had partially cancelled the 12th class exams. Because of the cancellation of the board exams, the Joint Admission Board had relaxed the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced, qualified students this year.

All the qualified students in 12th class exams are eligible to get admissions into various NITS regardless of the marks secured in the board exams. Stay tuned to this website to get more updates on educational news.
