HRD Ministry Releases Alternative Academic Calendar for Upper Primary Students

To provide quality education to the students despite the ongoing lockdown in the nation, the Government has come up with a unique thought. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, the Union Human Resource Development Minister issued an alternative academic calendar for the students of classes 6 to 8. The Minister released an official statement on Thursday informing the same. The statement reads, ‘the alternative academic calendars at primary and upper primary stage (Classes VI to VIII) have been developed by the NCERT under the guidance of the MHRD.’

For the students at the primary level, the alternative academic calendar has been released already on 16th April. Now, the Minister has released the alternative calendar for the upper primary grades for the academic year. In this calendar, there are some of the crucial instructions to the teachers regarding the usage of different technological tools and social media tools. Using these tools, the teachers need to provide education to the students in interesting and blithesome ways. Even, the teachers, students, and parents can listen to the classes right from home.

The Minister revealed the fact that most of the students don’t have access to the internet on a mobile phone. Even, some of them can’t use popular social networking tools like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Google, and more. Hence, the Minister said has planned to design the calendar in such a way that the teachers need to inform the students and parents via SMS or voice calls.

He further added that the parents could assist their elementary level students to execute this calendar. Pokhriyal also said that an alternative academic calendar will be released soon for the classes of 9th to 12th grades. The official statement disclosed that the calendar comprises weekly plans for organizing fun-filled and challenging activities. All the activities will be related to the student’s textbook or syllabus.

Some of the interactive learning activities include Physical Exercises, Yoga, Arts Education, pre-vocational skills, and more. On the academic calendar, one can find the subject-wise and grade-wise activities furnished in various tabular forms.
