The Indira Gandhi National Open University [IGNOU] has launched the Master of Science in Environmental Science degree course from January 2021 academic session. The School of Inter-Disciplinary and Trans-Disciplinary Studies is offering the course at IGNOU via ODL mode. Aiming at providing skilled man-power to handle the developing environmental and developmental problems and changes arising from the transition to a sustainable society, the university will be offering the course.
The new programme gives an insight into the socio-economic causes and the characteristics of pollution and degradation of the natural environment. It includes the effects on human beings, the ecosystem, the atmosphere, and other organisms, said the University. The key objective of this course is to expose the students to theoretical principles comprising air, soil pollution, water, and monitoring systems. It also helps the learners understand the physical, chemical, and biological processes of the environment.
The programme will help learners understand the necessity to develop the capacity to hold independent assessments on environmental issues. Besides this, the learners will be well equipped to assess the environmental systems and problems. With the new degree programme in Environmental Science, IGNOU is planning to impart knowledge and understanding to the students in various fields.
The programme will allow learners to propose sustainable solutions to environmental problems, aids in the development of policies and strategies for environmental planning, as per the official statement issued by IGNOU. The candidates who have graduated with a BSc degree from any recognized university can register for the new programme at the official website i.e., at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
