IIT Delhi Launches Materials Engineering Course in B.Tech

The Indian Institute of Delhi [IIT Delhi] has rolled out a new UG course – B.Tech in Materials Engineering. The candidates who secure a qualifying score in the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced [JEE Advanced] 2020 will be eligible for this course. An official statement from the Indian Institute of Delhi has been issued recently. Starting from this year, the IIT Delhi’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering will provide the new course to a total of 40 students.

Professor Josemon Jacob, Head, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, IIT Delhi said in an official statement that ‘The development, selection, and processing of materials are central to any engineering advancement. The UG program in Materials Engineering is designed to equip the students with the necessary knowledge and skills to cater to all industrial sectors that require knowledge in material design and engineering to meet the growing industrial as well as the academic demands of our country.’

Intending to bring out next-generation technology leaders for the fundamental industrial sectors, academia, and entrepreneurship, IIT Delhi has decided to launch this new programme. This course mostly emphasizes the relationships between structure and properties in different classes of materials. It includes metals, polymers, electronic materials, and biomaterials.

The professor further added, ‘Graduates of this programme will be poised to enter the Aerospace, Manufacturing, Defence, Oil and Gas, Automotive and Petrochemicals industry.’ The new BTech programme will perfectly suit those candidates who are interested in both basic sciences and engineering or a blend of the two, said IIT Delhi.

The official statement also reads, ‘Students choosing the programme will be working with a world-class team of young and vibrant faculty addressing contemporary research problems relevant to society at large. The programme is futuristic with a strong focus on both experimental and computational approaches to the discovery, characterization, selection, design, and application of materials.’

In recent times, IIT Delhi rolled out another B.Tech course in Engineering and Computational Mechanics. The aspirants who qualify in the JEE Advanced 2020 examination and select IIT Delhi can join this course. The aspirants must and should clear JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams to acquire admission to IITs.
