The Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education [previously known as the Ministry of Human Resource Development] has launched the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements [ARIIA] in the previous year. Under the category of ‘Institutions of National Importance, Central Universities, and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions’, IIT-Madras has gained Rank 1. As per the latest report, about 674 institutions took part in the ARIIA Rankings this year. Last year, only 496 institutions participated in the ARIIA Rankings.
ARIIA will give rankings to the educational institutions and universities across the nation based on innovation-specific indicators. The main objective of the Indian institutions is to realign their way of thinking and construct ecosystems to promote high-quality research, entrepreneurship, and creativity. Rather than emphasizing on the quantity, ARIIA emphasizes on quality of creations and evaluates the actual impact developed by these innovations nationally and globally.
After IIT-Madras secured top rank, the next comes IIT-Bombay and IIT-Delhi. Further, the Indian Institute of Science [IISc] in Bengaluru and IIT-Kharagpur have secured the top 4th and 5th ranks respectively.
