The Indian Institutes of Technology [IITs] has been thinking about whether to hold the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced exam for about 2 to 3 days rather than organizing it in a single day. The concerned officials have been contemplating over this matter. One of the officials at IITs discussed the same and said, ‘IITs are discussing with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) if the JEE (Advanced) Exam can take place on 2-3 days this year so that social distancing can be easily maintained at the test centers.’
Usually, the officials conduct the JEE Advanced examination every year only in a day for all the applicants. But, this time, the officials have been planning to change the routine mode of holding the exam considering the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, the authorities of IITs have been seeking to organize the exam in and across additional test venues. This initiative has been made to evade the further spread of the coronavirus pandemic whilst holding the exam.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development issued the timetable for JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams in July 2020. Further, the officials have revised the schedule considering the current situation of the nation. As per the revised schedule, JEE Main will be organized from 1st September to 6th September 2020. On the other hand, the JEE Advanced examination will be conducted on 27th September 2020.
In the subsequent Joint Admission Board meeting, the officials will be discussing this matter. The upcoming meeting is scheduled to be conducted this week. Every year, only one IIT will conduct the JEE Advanced examination. This year, IIT-Delhi is the official conducting body of the national-level entrance examination. The officials of IIT-Delhi hold the responsibility this year to organize the exam.
MHRD made an official announcement regarding the moderation in providing admissions into various IITs without considering the performance of the students in the 12th class board exams this year. To provide admissions into different IITs, the officials will consider some other eligibility conditions. The students must acquire either a minimum score of 75% in 12th class board exams or secure a rank among the top 20 percentile in the qualifying exam.
