The Joint Admission Board [JAB] has conducted an emergency meeting on Wednesday. During the meeting, the concerned authorities have decided to given an additional opportunity to the students to appear for the JEE Advanced exam next year. The students who were absent for the IIT entrance examination, the JAB officials have given this second chance.
In an official statement, the board said, ‘To address the concerns of the affected candidates, while avoiding prejudice to other candidates, it has been decided to allow all the candidates, who had successfully registered to appear in JEE Advanced 2020 but were absent in the exam, to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2021, as a one-time measure.’
As of now, a candidate is permitted only two times at the IIT entrance examination. Still, the final year students or the students who couldn’t take up the exam this year in their second attempt will be given a relaxation. For some time now, the maximum number of students and academicians have been raising their voice to extend the number of attempts.
However, this year, the total number of students appearing for the JEE Advanced exam 2020 was also recorded pretty less. Out of a total of 2.5 lakh registered candidates, only 1.5 lakh students have appeared for the exam. To make sure to provide an equal chance to all, the Joint Admission Board has also decided that these students will not have to qualify for the JEE Main 2021 and also permitted to directly take up the JEE Advanced 2021 exam.
However, it depends on their fruitful registration process to take up the JEE Advanced 2020 examination. This particular relaxation considering the previous eligibility criteria will be in addition to the relative relaxation of the age limit. Later, it has been decided that these students would be considered in addition to and not as part of the total number of students who would qualify from the JEE Main 2021 exam to appear in the JEE Advanced 2021.
