JNU May Cancel Summer Vacations, Hold Online Exams

The Jawaharlal Nehru University [JNU] is in talks on when to organize the university examinations amid the COVID-19 lockdown situation. Recently, the Government has extended the lockdown period to 3rd May 2020. The extension has been implemented considering the increased cases of COVID-19 in the nation.

On 12th April 2020, JNU organized a consultative meeting with the vice-chancellor, registrar, rectors, deans of different schools and the chairpersons. Later, i.e., on 14th April 2020, JNU issued an official statement regarding the University examinations. During the meeting, the officials have decided to communicate with the corresponding faculties and prepare few recommendations on holding the exams.

JNU May Cancel Summer Vacations

As per the report, to finish the academic calendar as per the previous schedule, JNU is planning whether to organize the exams online or not. The report further added that the University might cancel the summer vacations for the students. After conducting a meeting on 16th April, the officials will make a final decision post considering the suggestions of the faculty members.

Previously, the Vice-Chancellor had initiated two committees. One committee takes care of the pending courses while the second committee decides on when to conduct the exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest report informs the candidates that the University might remain shut down during the ongoing semester. So, the University will make all the necessary efforts to hold the semester exams online.

The two committees set up by the University recommended the concerned boards to organize teaching and learning in online modes. As per the latest report, ‘Classes should be conducted on Zoom or other online platforms mutually convenient to course teacher as well as students.’

Several educational boards across different states have already started implementing digital classes for the students. Intending to teach and learn amid the COVID-19 outbreak, the Government officials have been planning to conduct the online classes for the aspirants.
