After Tamil Nadu, Delhi, AP, and Telangana, it’s Karnataka Government that has decided to promote classes 7 and 8 students without exams. On 2nd April 2020, the Primary Secondary Education Minister of Karnataka, Suresh Kumar decided to promote the students of 7th and 8th classes. For those students, no exams will be conducted and they can enter their subsequent classes.
The Government has come to this decision due to the country-wide lockdown. We all know, the Central Government of India has initiated the lockdown intending to stop the spread of coronavirus. Besides the 7th and 8th classes, the students of 9th class will be promoted after considering their performance in formative and summative assessment tests. The Education Minister of Karnataka has come to this decision and informed the same to school authorities.
He further said that the decision on 10th and 12th [SSLC and 2nd PUC] exams will be taken post the completion of the lockdown period i.e., after 14th April 2020. After prolonged discussions, the officials have decided not the conduct exams for 7th and 8th class students. They will be promoted without taking up the annual exams.
There is only one examination remained i.e., English paper for the PUC students. The department will announce the revised schedule for conducting this exam after the lockdown. The Minister further stated that the students shouldn’t go out of the home as they are being promoted to the next class without exams. Instead, he advised the students to stay home and stay safe in the current critical situation.
