The State Government of Maharashtra has recently adopted Google’s G Suite for Education and initiated Google Classroom to supervise online education. With this great initiative, it is possible to provide online education to more than 2.3 crore students across 109942 schools in Maharashtra. The Chief Minister of the state, Uddhav Thackeray has launched this platform on Thursday. During the launch of the initiative, the state CM called it ‘a positive step’. This platform will surely impact several fields. Moreover, it will truly influence the ‘work from home’ concept during the lockdown period.
The minister also said, ‘Our primary concern has been the restarting of education rather than reopening of schools.’ He further said that launching online education across the state by adopting Google technology is a matter of pride. This way, Maharashtra becomes the first state to adopt this innovative technology in India. The School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad and Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister took part in the inauguration event.
The minister further added, ‘I am proud to say that Maharashtra is the first state in the country to launch G Suite for Education and Google Classroom ..All of us had questions regarding the future, in terms of education, and we have come to a step closer to the answer, due to the pandemic.’ Each student and teacher will be assigned a separate login ID and password to be a part of online education. The content provided to the students and teachers in digital mode will be available in the Marathi language as well.
The teacher who owns a separate ID and password will access G Suite and gets interacted with all the students. The teacher needs to carry out various activities such as holding live classes, uploading videos, giving assignments, and sharing links to the students regarding various educational content. The teachers can also give presentations, display graphs, take attendance of the students, and more during online classes.
The Deputy Director of State Council of Education Research and Training, Vikas Garad said that the teacher can perform every activity that they do almost all while conducting a physical class. He further added that each teacher will be centrally monitored on how long a teacher has organized the class. Besides monitoring the class duration, the number of students who have logged into the online session will be tracked. The officials will keep a track of the content taught to the students and how long each student logged into the session. With this initiative, the State Government seeks to make remote learning much simpler. Moreover, it enables teachers to teach the students in synchronous as well as asynchronous modes.
