MP and Chhattisgarh Govts to Arrange Free Transportation for JEE and NEET 2020

The State Government of Madhya Pradesh has made necessary arrangements to conduct the JEE Main and NEET 2020 examinations in September. After Odisha, Madhya Pradesh Government has decided to provide free transport to the students who will take up the national level exams next month. Considering the current situation of the state, the MP Government has decided to arrange free transportation to all the candidates.

On Sunday, the Chief Minister of MP, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, ‘Government of Madhya Pradesh is arranging free-of-cost transport facility for students appearing for JEE/NEET exams. Arrangements will be done from block HQ (headquarters) and district HQ of exam centers. Examinees can call at 181 or can apply by clicking on https://mapit.gov.in/covid-19 from August 31.’ Chouhan made this announcement by posting a tweet on his official Twitter handle.

Further, the Chief Minister’s Office [CMO] has posted a series of tweets regarding the free 2-way transportation facility to the students for those who appear in the aforesaid exams. By providing this provision, the Government ensures that no student confronts any sort of difficulty amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides the students, this provision will also be provided to one of the associates who come along with the candidate during the exam.

The candidates who are seeking free transportation need to register themselves on the e-pass portal of the Government. Otherwise, the students can also register by calling the helpline number – 181. It is known that the JEE Main exam has been scheduled to be conducted between 1st and 6th September 2020. On the other hand, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test [NEET] 2020 has been scheduled to be organized on 13th September 2020.

It’s not only the Madhya Pradesh Government but also the Chhattisgarh government decided to provide free transportation to the candidates. One of the officials from the CM Office made this announcement on Sunday. Bhupesh Baghel, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh has directed all the district collectors to provide free transportation to the students to and from the test centers across different parts of the state. Baghel also instructed the nodal officers of different districts to coordinate with Regional Transport Office [RTO] and District Transport Office [DTO] to make transportation arrangements. It includes providing buses, vans, and other vehicles to the students as part of free transportation.

The students need to register themselves who seek free transportation to take up these exams. Approximately 13500 students will take up the JEE Main exam from Chhattisgarh state. A total of 5 test venues have been set up across the state. NTA holds the JEE Main 2020 exam to provide admissions into various Engineering courses. NEET exam will be conducted to give admissions to the eligible candidates into various medical and dental courses.

The official also said that one of the parents will be permitted to escort girl students during the exams. Chhattisgarh CM also strictly directed all the concerned authorities to ensure that the exams will be conducted by following proper social distancing and other precautionary measures. Even, the Chhattisgarh CM, Baghel also opposed the decision of the Center to conduct these entrance exams amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic outbreak, a group of students across different states and some of the political party leaders have filed a plea in the Supreme Court opposing NTA’s decision on conducting the exams. The opposition parties have disagreed with the Center’s decision on holding the exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic. They were highly worried about the safety of students. However, the apex court supported the NTA’s decision and given a verdict to hold the exams by following all the vital precautionary measures.
