The National Institute of Open Schooling [NIOS] has cancelled the class 10 and class 12 exams that were earlier scheduled to hold in July 2020. In fact, the concerned authorities had scheduled to conduct the secondary and senior secondary exams in March 2020. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the officials had deferred to 17th July 2020. Now, the authorities have completely cancelled the exams. NIOS has made this announcement through an official statement.
Further, NIOS said that it will soon implement a new scheme to assess the students’ performance as the exams have been cancelled. For that, NIOS will be forming an expert committee and considers the recommendations of the latter. In the statement, NIOS said that the result assessment will be done accordingly and released soon.
The notice further reads that the students will be given another opportunity to take part in the NIOS 10th and 12th class exams once the current situation becomes normal. As per the official notice, the performance of the students in 4 subjects and average marks of the best 3 subjects will be awarded as theory marks. The students with past performance in 3 papers will be given as a theory score. It’s the average of the scores of the students in their 2 best subjects.
The notice further reads that the past performance of the students in 1 or 2 papers will be awarded average marks in the last 2 theory exam papers. The statement further reads, ‘For all learners who were to appear for the first time and their Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) and/or practical marks are available, their performance will be calculated based on the basis of available TMA and/or practical marks.’
The practical marks or TMA acquired by the students will be reflected alongside the theory marks in the marks statement, said the official statement. Get to know the latest updates about the educational news including the exams and results on this website.
