The authorities of the Punjab School Education Board [PSEB] have commenced the textbooks’ distribution process for the Government school students across Punjab. As per the directions of Krishan Kumar, the secretary of the Punjab education depot, the board officials have initiated the distribution across various block officers in the district. Despite the shortage of manpower, the officials were seen implementing the task of distributing the textbooks at the Punjabi Bhawan on 13th May 2020.
The officials have been distributing the books for the students of classes from 1 to 8 completely free of cost. Besides these students, the 9th and 10th class students belonging to SC, ST, and BC categories will also get these books for free. Usually, the officials of the depot will hire enough workers to load the trucks with textbooks. Further, the workers will deliver the books to a total of 19 blocks across the district.
This year, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the nationwide lockdown, there is a massive shortage of manpower. As a result, the officials have to carry out the work with the currently available staff at the PSEB depot. There are a total of 7 workers to take part in the distribution process. They include 4 daily-wage workers, a manager, one storekeeper, and a Class 4 employee.
The most important precautionary measure in the current critical situation of the nation is to sanitize the things transferred from one place to the other. By following the ‘proper sanitizing procedure’, the officials have carried out the textbooks delivery process to the respective block-level offices.
All the packed bundles of the textbooks that were stored in the storerooms before the lockdown have been taken out. Those bundles were sprayed with the proper sanitizer using disinfectants before distributing them for the students. All the DEOs and the staff members of the PSEB board have been taking essential precautionary steps while distributing the textbooks.
