The Government of Punjab announced that the PSEB Class 10 students will be promoted to the next standards without holding board exams. Amarinder Singh, the Chief Minister of Punjab made this decision considering the current situation of the nation amid the COVID-19 crisis. On 8th May 2020, Punjab CM posted a tweet informing the same on his official Twitter handle. Another news is that the students of 10th class in Punjab will be promoted based on their pre-board exam grades.
The minister further added that the students of classes 5 to 8 will also get promoted to the next standards sans exams. Speaking about the 12th class examinations, the Minister said that the state government will be following the guidelines of the Indian Government. The tweet reads, ‘Have decided to promote students of Class V & VIII to next classes as well as to promote class X students to next class on the basis of pre-board results. For Class XII examinations, we will follow the Government of India’s decision.’
The nationwide lockdown has been extended till 17th May 2020 due to the exponential rise in the number of coronavirus cases across India. In fact, the educational board of Punjab is the first state board to make this decision on promoting the 10th class students in the nation. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar state boards had wrapped up the board exams of 10th students in their respective states before the lockdown. But, the remaining state boards hadn’t finished the exams by that time.
