The Government of Punjab directed all the government, aided and non-aided colleges, and government and private universities on Monday to fully reopen thee colleges from 21st January 2021. As per the latest announcement, all the higher educational institutions must follow the instructions ordered by the Punjab government concerning the COVID-19 pandemic timely. The Higher Education Department, Punjab has released a detailed letter to all the colleges and universities across the state regarding the same.
As per the government’s guidelines, the educational institutions must organize classes via both offline and online mediums and hold the semester or annual exams via offline medium only in the students’ interest, said an official spokesperson. Meanwhile, the students would be permitted to take classes based on their choice and no educational institute should force students to attend the classes in person.
The spokesperson stated that hostels should be opened in the colleges and universities following the instructions of COVID-19. Considering the size of the room and following the social distancing norms, hostel rooms must be allotted per student. The safety of the students is the major concern and preference should be given to the final year students initially. Following the instructions of the health department, canteens and mess in various educational institutions must be opened following all the safety precautions, said the spokesperson.
All the colleges and universities must make sure compliance with all the instructions and guidelines released by the Punjab Government, Center, and the Higher Education Department concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, said the spokesperson. Previously, the Government had permitted the reopening of the colleges and universities in the state from 16th November in a phased manner.
In the initial phase, only departments with interactive training such as sciences and medicines were permitted to open and only final year students were called for classes with 50 percent attendance in person.
