The Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has come up with the latest news about reopening the schools and colleges. The Indian Government has imposed a nation-wide lockdown in March due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, all the schools and colleges across the country were shut down until 14th April. Now, the Government is all set to decide on reopening the colleges and schools across the country.
The Government might announce the same after reviewing the situation of the COVID-19 outbreak in the nation. The HRD Ministry is the official organization that takes care of the education system in the nation. The Ministry had deferred different exams that were scheduled in March and April amid coronavirus pandemic.
During an interview, the HRD Minister said that the Government always considers the safety of the students and teachers in the first place. He further added that the Ministry is highly conscious in making sure that no student will lose their academics even if the schools and institutes are required to be closed until 14th April.
The Education Minister responded to the academic plan that the Government has taken after the completion of the lockdown. In his words, ‘It is difficult to take a decision at the moment. We will review the situation on April 14 and depending upon the circumstances, a decision will be taken on whether schools and colleges can be reopened now or have to be closed for more time.’
He said that there are more than 34 crore students across the nation which is comparatively more than the population of America. Hence, the safety of students and teachers is the key importance to the Government. Speaking about the lockdown, the 21-day lockdown period will end by 14th April 2020. Considering the indications from the central government, the PM Modi may not extend the lockdown after 14th April.
Some of the Government platforms such as Swayam, KVS and more have been working on online platforms to provide digital education to the students. The Minister said that he is reviewing the educational activities that are being followed by various schools and colleges online. He further said that the Government is seeking to conduct the postponed exams and finish the pending evaluations soon after lifting the lockdown.
