The Education Minister of Tripura, Ratan Lal Nath officially announced the mass promotion of the students from classes 1 to 9 and 11. The students of the said classes will be promoted to the next grades without taking part in the annual exams. The State education minister has initiated virtual classes for the students across different schools amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Minister stated that the virtual classes for all the candidates of different state schools have begun from 19th April 2020 i.e., from Sunday.
The students of all the state schools studying higher secondary levels will take part in the virtual classes. These classes will be telecasted on 14 local cable channels, as per the latest report. It is already known that the schools across the state were shut down due to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown. The education minister said that all the pre-recorded classes have been made accessible to the students on YouTube. They have started a new YouTube channel with the name ‘Tripura Shiksha Bandhu’.
While speaking to the media spokesperson, Ratan Lal Nath said that the 9th class students are left with three subjects in the annual exams. It includes Sociology, Statistics, and Music. The lockdown was levied without the completion of these 3 exams. Still, the lockdown is being endured in the state due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus.
The State Education Minister hence decided not to conduct the remaining papers for the 9th class students. Instead, those students will be promoted to the next grades depending on their half-yearly exam marks. The State Government ordered all the education authorities of various districts to upload the marks sheets of all the students on the official state education department app before 25th April 2020.
The education minister has clarified that the mass promotion facility isn’t permitted for college students. In the state of Tripura, there are a total of 22 general government degree colleges. Apart from these, there are 7 technical institutes such as Engineering, medical and other colleges. After lifting the lockdown, the authorities will conduct the exams for college students. The evaluation process of Madhyamik and Higher Secondary exams will be commenced from 24th April across 13 venues in Agartala.
