West Bengal Educational Institutes to Remain Close Till 30th Nov

The State Government of West Bengal announced that the educational institutes will remain shut till 30th November 2020. The Government made this announcement on Monday adding that all the campus-related activities will be suspended till the aforesaid date. Meanwhile, the cinema halls outside containment zones can continue screening films with only 50 percent occupancy.

The Government issued a notification on Monday stating that religious gatherings, cultural functions, and other religious meetings may be permitted outside containment zones in open space. However, people can conduct such functions and gatherings following proper safety measures. The notification released by the West Bengal Government also reads, ‘teaching-learning physical assemblies in schools (including Anganwadi centers), colleges and universities will continue to be disallowed.’

All these are a part of the government’s decision to extend the timeline for implementing specific restrictions till 30th November 2020. Excluding for the access to training of sportspeople, swimming pools will remain shut for the time being. The notification reads, ‘cinemas/theatres/multiplexes will operate with up to 50% of their seating capacity (filled) in areas outside of containment zones.’

The State Government further stated that public gatherings, cultural events, sports,  and other meetings can be organized upon receiving approval from concerned authorities. Partha Chatterjee, the education minister of the state said that the government was planning to begin classes across various colleges and universities starting 1st December 2020. However, the government is yet to decide whether lessons would be taught offline or not.

The education minister also said that the decision about resuming classes in schools will be taken by the state CM Mamata Banerjee after Kali Puja.
