Amid the nationwide lockdown due to the dangerous coronavirus pandemic, various educational institutions across the country were shut down. As everything is locked down in the nation, most of the colleges and schools have initiated digital classes. The Zoram Medical College [ZMC] is one such institution that has planned to commence online classes for the students from Monday.
This official announcement has been made recently by the authorities of the college. During a meeting conducted with the ZMC officials, the commencement of online classes decision was made. The State Information and Communication Technology Department and BSNL also took part in the meeting. H Lalengmawaia, the state health, and family welfare secretary also participated in the meeting.
Due to the nationwide lockdown, the officials of ZMC have shut down the college and stopped taking the classes at the college. A total of 198 students have been pursuing their first and second years of MBBS courses in this medical college. Further, the officials have designated the ZMC as an isolation center for COVID-19 patients. The doctors will provide treatment to the patients who have coronavirus positive in ZMC.
As per the latest reports, there is only one COVID-19 positive case in the state of Mizoram. The person is a 50-year old pastor. He was tested and was confirmed as a positive case on 25th March 2020. Currently, he is undergoing treatment at the ZMC. According to the report from the officials of the health department, the patient’s condition is stable as of now. He doesn’t need any ventilator further.
Another news is that a couple of patients were admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 suspicion. Two attendants were kept under observation in the ZMC. The officials reported that the samples of those people will be sent to the corresponding lab for testing purposes.
