The Central Board of Secondary Education [CBSE] has decided to hold the optional compartment exams in September. The students who couldn’t clear their 10th and 12th class board exams in their first attempt and the candidates who couldn’t participate in the exam cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic can take part in this examination. Those who had registered for Improvement of Performance can also take part in the CBSE class 10 and class 12 compartment exam 2020.
The board has issued an official notification informing the same to the students. The official notice reads, ‘Candidates of Class XII who had applied for Improvement of Performance as regular candidates in the subjects for which examination was scheduled from 1st July 2020 to 15th July 2020 and their result has been declared as ‘NC’ in the subject concerned.’ Currently, the board hasn’t disclosed the date sheet for the compartment exams officially.
The Central Board of Secondary Education has just proposed that the optional exams for improvement of performance for the 12th class students are likely to be organized in September. Meanwhile, the compartment exams for 10th and 12th classes are also decided to hold in September. Sanyam Bhardwaj, the Examination Controller of CBSE said, ‘Optional examination for class 12 students whose result has been declared based on the assessment scheme and wish to improve their performance, are proposed to be conducted in September, along with the compartment examination for both class 10 and 12 students. Dates will be announced soon.’
He further added, ‘The marks obtained by a candidate in these optional examinations will be treated as final for those who have opted to take these examinations.’ The concerned officials have already commenced the application process for the compartment exam. The last date for wrapping up the application submission procedure is 20th August 2020 with a fee of Rs. 300 per subject. The students can now apply for the compartment exam as the online window is currently open on the official website i.e., cbse.nic.in.
The notification further reads, ‘Schools shall have to submit LOC for Compartment Examination in respect of regular students, both for Class XII and Class X through e-Pariksha, cbse.nic.in. Only those candidates whose name is submitted through the online process shall be allowed to appear for the examinations proposed to be conducted in September 2020.’
In general, the board holds the compartment exams for the students who have failed in 1 or 2 subjects in the regular exams. To clear the exam, a student must score a minimum of 33 percent of marks. The board has declared the CBSE 12th class results in the previous month. After the result declaration, the board witnessed that girls performed well compared to boys by scoring more than 6 percentage points.
