In the current situation of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, different education boards have witnessed an awry in the academic calendar. The Central Board of Secondary Education [CBSE] is one such board in the nation. It is now trying to rationalize the syllabus for the students of classes between 9 and 12 for the subsequent academic year. The board officials are seeking to rationalize the syllabus intending to recover the lost time amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the previous week, the National Council for Educational Research and Training [NCERT] announced an alternative academic calendar for the students of classes from 1 to 5. Due to the ongoing lockdown, the students are advised to stay home and study at home. Even, the NCERT is seeking to execute similar plans for the higher secondary classes.
One of the senior officials of the CBSE said, ‘NCERT has come out with revised activities calendar for classes 1-8, the CBSE is assessing the situation and loss time to rationalize syllabus for classes 9-12 and inform in due course of time.’ CBSE has already deferred the board examinations due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from CBSE, some other state boards have cancelled the board level examinations.
Meanwhile, some of the state boards have initiated online classes for some of the students. However, there are no standard instructions for conducting the digital classes before the announcement of the academic calendar. As per the announcement from the NCERT officials, the alternative academic calendar comprises various weekly plans. It includes some of the challenging activities for participating students. The activities will be related to the chapter or topic selected from the textbook or the students’ syllabus.
Another notable point is that the alternative calendar matches the themes with the learning results. By practicing this method, it helps teachers in enhancing the learning abilities of the children. As a result, the students can learn more beyond the subject available in textbooks. Get to know more details about the revised schedule of board exams and more on this website.
