The University Grants Commission announced that a new academic session will commence for the freshers in universities from September 2020. For the previously registered candidates in August 2020, the academic session will begin. This announcement has been made by the officials on Wednesday. As per the news, the admission procedure will commence across various varsities from 1st August 2020.
The commission furnished the instructions for the exams as well as the academic calendar for the universities amid the COVID-19 outbreak and nationwide lockdown. Further, the officials of the commission announced that the final semester examinations will be organized for the students in July 2020. Considering the situation of the nation in the imminent future, the Universities will decide whether to organize the exams online or offline. The varsities also make sure that the students will get adequate opportunities.
The University Grants Commission further announced that the varsities can take at least 30 days in June 2020 as summer holidays if the situation demands. The UGC announcement further reads, ‘Intermediate students will be graded based on internal assessment of the present and previous semester. In states where the COVID-19 situation has normalized, there will be exams in the month of July. For terminal semester students, exams will be held in July.’
It further added, ‘Universities may follow a six-day week pattern and devise proforma to record travel or stay a history of staff and students for the lockdown period. Extension of six months will be granted to MPhil, Ph.D. students, and viva-voice be conducted through video conference.’ The commission further clarified that the instructions announced now can be changed considering the future situation of the nation amid the coronavirus outbreak.
