The State Government of Punjab has decided to reopen the colleges and universities outside the COVID-19 containment zones starting 16th November 2020. The Government has made this announcement on Thursday. The regular classes for final year students of different colleges and universities under the medical education and research development would begin from 9th November, said an official spokesperson.
It is already known that all the educational institutions across the state were shut from 24th March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide lockdown. The spokesperson said, ‘All higher education, medical education, and research and technical education institutions, including all universities and colleges, in areas outside containment zones in the state would be allowed to re-open from November 16.’
He further stated that all the educational institutions must strictly follow the standard operating procedures by their corresponding administration departments in consultation with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, and the concerned ministry of the central government.
Previously, the state government of Punjab had given its consent to reopen the higher education institutions for research scholars [Ph.D.] and post-graduate candidates in science and technology streams that carry out laboratories and experimental works in different regions outside containment zones after 15th October 2020.
