A 12th class student from the district of Almora in Uttarakhand tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, the day the state government has reopened the schools after closing them for almost 8 months due to the pandemic situation. An 18-year old 12th class student was tested COVID-19 positive at one of the schools in Ranikhet earlier this week. More than 12 students who were in contact with him have been put under isolation. As per the district administration sources, the school has been sealed for about 3 days.
H.B. Chand, the Chief Education Officer, Almora said, ‘The student was asymptomatic and his temperature was normal at the entrance of the school. Later, his family informed the school authorities that his uncle and aunt tested positive. Subsequently, the student also tested positive.’ He further added, ‘There were 15 other students in his classroom. Directions were issued for their tests too. The school has been closed for three days.’
Currently, the infected student is under treatment. The samples of the remaining students have been sent for testing and the reports are yet to come. Till then, the students will remain in isolation. All the schools in Uttarakhand state were reopened for 10th and 12th class students on Monday by following the COVID-19 guidelines strictly such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing measures.
The state government of Uttarakhand has directed to reopen the schools. Following the orders of the government, most schools were reopened across the state. However, the parents were not willing to send their children to schools considering the increase of the COVID-19 cases.
