The Supreme Court has directed the National Institute of Open Schooling [NIOS] on Wednesday to declare the results of the current academic year by 7th August 2020. Justice A M Khanwilkar was the head of the bench at the apex court. The bench was given information that NIOS had released an official notification on 10th July 2020 cancelling all secondary and senior secondary exams. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the previously scheduled exams have been cancelled.
The bench also included the Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dinesh Maheshwari. On Wednesday, the bench said, ‘Considering the fact that…NIOS has already issued a notification on July 10, 2020, after the institution of these petition(s), nothing survives for consideration in the present writ petition(s) except to observe that…NIOS must ensure that the result for the current academic year is declared not later than August 7, 2020.’
The bench further added, ‘In other words, the time-line for declaring the results by…NIOS is now specified as August 7.’ In the official notification, the NIOS said that the institute has been considering the perilous COVID-19 pandemic situation in the nation. The notice reads, ‘conduct of March 2020 secondary and senior secondary course public examination rescheduled to commence from July 17, 2020, and further postponed, now stands cancelled.’
The Supreme Court has given the order upon hearing two petitions that have raised issues of NIOS classes 10 and 12 examinations considering the pandemic. In one of the petitions, NIOS asked the direction of the apex court about cancelling the deferred exams that were scheduled to be organized by NIOS. Besides this, the petitions also asked about the result declaration of 10th and 12th class exams.
The apex court also said that it’s risky for the students to conduct the pending exams in the current dangerous pandemic situation of the country. Get to know more educational updates on this website.
