Union Public Service Commission [UPSC] has postponed the Preliminary Civil Services Examination 2020 due to the lockdown extension till 17th May 2020. Intending to stop the further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the commission has postponed the exam. Previously, the authorities have scheduled to conduct the much-anticipated exam on 31st May 2020. Now, the latest announcement says that the exam has been delayed.
Informing the same, the commission has issued an official notice. The notice reads, ‘The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2020, scheduled to be held on May 31, 2020, therefore stands deferred. Since this examination also serves as the screening test for the Indian Forest Service Examination, the schedule for the Indian Forest Service Examination is also deferred. The situation will be reviewed again on May 20, 2020, and fresh dates for these examinations shall be notified on the UPSC website in due course.’
As per the notice, the officials will inform the revised schedule after lifting the lockdown. As per the announcement by the UPSC authorities, a new date will be announced after assessing the situation by 20th May 2020. Arvind Saxena organized this meeting along with other officials of the Commission. This meeting was conducted on Monday in the presence of the senior authorities of UPSC.
The officials held this meeting post the Indian Government has extended the nationwide lockdown till 17th May 2020 to curb the coronavirus crisis. In fact, the Commission has scheduled to issue the admit cards for the Civil Services exam applicants this week. Due to the postponement of the exam, the availability of the admit cards will be deferred. More than 10 lakh candidates will register for the preliminary examinations every year.
