Students who wish to calculate their score by themselves without waiting for the university to announce them then here is the formula and the process to do it.

GATEScore=Sq+(St−Sq)(M−Mq)(Mˉt−Mq)

In the formula,

M stands for marks secured by the student (original marks for single session papers and normalized marks for various session papers)

Mq : Qualifying marks for general category candidate in the paper

Mˉt : mean of marks of top 0.1% or top 10 (whichever is larger)

Sq  : 350, is the score assigned to Mq

St  : 900, is the score assigned to Mˉt

Gate 2020 Negative Marking

It is common to have negative marking for quite competitive exam like GATE. Students that took the GATE exam should also be aware of the negative marking and how it is awarded to the questions. We have pointed out the negative marking pattern followed by the institute hereunder. Have a look!

  • The multiple choice questions in the paper carrying 1 mark will have 1/3 negative marking for wrong answer.
  • The multiple choice questions carrying 2 marks each will have 2/3 negative marking for wrong answer.
  • Nevertheless, there is no negative marking for the Numerical Answer Type questions either for 1 mark or 2 mark questions.

GATE 2020 Score Normalization

The GATE exam score is normalized every year in order to make it appropriate and balanced for the other papers conducted. The normalization is done so as to balance the complexity of the paper with the simple paper.  The university has derived a formula through which students can calculate their normalization score of GATE exam.
